Why do I need a referral form?

In accordance with the Disaster Risk Management Act (Enforcement Measures) (No. 14) Order, 2020 Sixth Schedule (Paragraph 24):

  • All tests MUST be ordered by a physician and conducted by authorized public/private sector laboratories which have fulfilled the requirements of the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

What method of testing is used?

Antigen and PCR tests are available.

Antigen tests are done with the SD Biosensor Q and F, which are approved by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

How is the test performed?

Nasopharyngeal Swab (Nasal) or Oropharyngeal Swab (Throat).

Does the testing process hurt?

Some persons experience a mild discomfort, runny nose but symptoms usually go away in a few minutes.

 

If you find that the testing is hurting you, you should tell the doctor or medical professional performing the test right away.

How much does it cost?

  • The Antigen test costs J$3,000.00 or US$20.00.
  • The PCR test costs J$12,000.00 or US$80.00.

Yes, the Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Ltd, Allied Health Unit is approved by the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) to perform COVID-19 testing.

What is the difference between the Antigen and PCR test?

  • The PCR testing is considered the “gold standard” in detecting SARS-CoV-2. It detects the genetic material that is specific to the virus and can detect the virus within days of infection, even if you are not displaying symptom.

 

  • The antigen test frequently referred to as a rapid test, detects antigenic protein fragments specific to the Coronavirus. The rapid test is considered most accurate in a patient who is having symptoms of COVID-19.

What do you do if you just want to walk in and get the test done?

If you are not taking the test for traveling purposes, you will need a valid ID and a requisition form from a Medical Doctor.

If I am fully vaccinated, do I still need to take a test to travel?

Yes, the country of your desired visit will stipulate the test that is required for entry.

How do I get the test result?

The result is sent to an email address provided upon registration at the testing location.
