SCOPE OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the Head of Department to which he/she is assigned, the incumbent is responsible for performing and reporting results on a variety of standardized laboratory tests in such clinical fields as Chemistry, Microbiology, Haematology and/or the Allied Health Unit. The incumbent may perform assignments in more than one of the above clinical testing areas depending on the workload.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform tests and report results
- Perform and document related quality control
- Confirm and verify abnormal results
- Correlate and interpret data
- Engage in problem solving
- Enhance the efficiency and accuracy of laboratory testing by maintaining adequate supplies, by keeping equipment in operational condition and by maintaining a clean and orderly work area
- Assist in the preparation of monthly statistical report by keeping accurate records on all laboratory procedures performed
- Perform duties and functions necessary for the efficient and quality operations of the department/unit
- Accept personal accountability for performance
- Any other related duties assigned
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
The Medical Technology group is divided into the following different levels based on years of experience:
- Medical Technologist I- 1 to 4 years
- Medical Technologist II- 5 to 9 years
- Medical Technologist III- 10 to 14 years
- Senior Medical Technologist- 15 years and over
QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of the disciplines of Microbiology, Haematology, Chemistry and knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and procedures
- Demonstrate professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills both with patients and health professionals
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Registration by the Council of Professions Supplementary of Medicine.
